Presence in the Strait

Scarce winter visitor to Western shores (<12), more common during passage. Summer visitors may be present.

Identification

Smaller than a Curlew, with shorter bill with a curved tip and dark crown sides with strong supercilium. Wingbeats faster. Isolated individuals or small groups of 2-3 birds are normally observed.

Movements

More noticeable postnuptial migration. Peaks in 2 hf. April and 2nd hf. August.
