- Bioestrecho is a digital atlas of the biodiversity of the Strait of Gibraltar driven by El Estrecho Digital, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras and its Green Strategy, the Association of Municipalities of the Campo de Gibraltar and Algeciras City Council. Owner for the purposes of Spanish Law 34/2002 on information society services: El Estrecho Digital, a digital news outlet of the Campo de Gibraltar, whose registration and contact details are published at elestrechodigital.com.
- Purpose
- The portal gathers, for educational and scientific purposes, biodiversity records openly published by third parties (GBIF, OBIS, iNaturalist, Wikimedia Commons, Movebank, Open-Meteo, EMODnet, Natural Earth and the European Environment Agency) and presents them with its own text and cartography. Use is free of charge.
- Terms of use
- Readers agree to use the portal lawfully and in accordance with these terms. Bulk reproduction of pages, interference with the service, or use of the portal to locate or disturb sensitive species are not permitted: the positions of those species are deliberately generalised.
- Intellectual property
- Texts, design, derived cartography and code belong to their authors. Records come from their sources under CC0 or CC BY licences, and every photograph shows its author and licence next to the image: reusing a photo means honouring that licence, not the portal's. The marks of the founding entities belong to their owners.
- Disclaimer
- The figures describe what has been published openly, not the full reality of the Strait; every figure states its source, date and caveat. The wind reading is an interpretation of a forecast, not a prediction of the passage. The portal is not responsible for the content of external sites it links to.
- Applicable law
- These terms are governed by Spanish law. Any dispute shall be brought before the courts of Algeciras, unless the law provides otherwise.
