Presence in the Strait
Breeding two couples in the area since 2008. Rare winter visitor (<5) to La Janda farmlands, especially at Finca Las Lomas (Benalup), where they bred until the first quarter of the 20th Century. Also in the Vejer pine forests and in the Ojén Valley.
Identification
Adults are very large and blackish, with white scapulars and leading edges to wings and grey tail-base with a black terminal band. Juveniles are reddish-brown with dark primaries, trailing edge of wing and tail.
Movements
Usually juveniles and sub-adults dispersal. Records every month of the year except May, with peaks from August to January (89%).
Ring recoveries
Three juveniles and one sub-adult from Doñana National Park (Huelva), and one adult (9 years) from the Mountains of Toledo.
