Common winter visitor to reedbeds in marshes.

Identification

Small, pale bird with grey head, black mask, reddish-brown back and Paridae Herrerillo Común Cyanistes ultramarinus Cyanistescaeruleus ogliastrae Herrerillo Africano Carbonero Común Remizidae conical bill. Females have a narrower mask.

Movements

The first birds arrive in September, with peaks in 1st hf. November and 2nd hf. February.

Ring recoveries

Germany (2). Sixteen retraps in the area show their high fidelity to wintering sites. Another record also indicates the use of different wetland areas in the same season, as a bird ringed in the Pájaro Moscón River Guadiaro estuary on 12.11.87 was controlled at the Europeo Marismas del Palmones on 3.01.88.
