Presence in the Strait
Scarce resident on farmland. Only recently became permanent. Passeridae ad.W ad.E Gorrión Común ad.E Gorrión Moruno ad.W Gorrión Molinero ad. First seen as a migrant in the ‘70s. First breeding records in 1983 at Jimena de la Frontera and in 1985 at the old Palmones salt marsh; later appeared in the Western part of the territory.
Identification
Smallest of the sparrows and can be distinguished by a black ear-patch and pure white collar. Sexes are alike. In juveniles, greyish tone to crown centre and grey ear-coverts with hint of cheekpatch.
Movements
Peaks in March and October.
