Presence in the Strait

Common summer visitor in areas with crops and salt marshes (50-60 pairs).

Identification

Unmistakable. In flight, resembles a marsh tern. Usually seen in groups. Juveniles have spotted breast band and scaly upperparts.

Movements

Migration takes place from March to October, with peaks in 2nd hf. April and 1st hf. September. Movements in June correspond to juvenile dispersal.
