Common resident in open areas, especially in the West.

Identification

Greyish-brown bird with a distinct crest and ground habits. In flight, broad wings and short tail that is dark-centred with buffish edges. Very similar to a Thekla Lark and difficult to separate, although it is slightly larger, Alaudidae Alondra Común Calandria Común Cogujada Común Cogujada Montesina with sandier tones and orange-buff armpits instead of greyish. Juveniles have a shorter crest and paler underparts.

Movements

Inconspicuous prenuptial migration from near the end of February to March; postnuptial migration with peaks in 2nd hf. October.
