Presence in the Strait
Common resident of cliffs and constructions outside cities. Unknown in Cadiz province until great expansion in the ‘50s, arriving at Las Lomas and Gibraltar in 1960 and 1964 respectively. The population of the Strait is divided into two by the Central mountains: the Western and the Eastern populations, which seem to be isolated and to have different origins, the Western population in Seville and the Eastern population in Malaga.
Identification
Smallest of the corvids. Completely black at first sight, but has a grey nape and breast. Light-grey eyes and short, black bill. Highly gregarious.
Movements
Sedentary but with a winter influx. Its numbers vary considerably from year to year and may exceed 12,000 birds as in 1994 at Las Lomas. Peaks in March and October.
