Presence in the Strait
Occasional migrant to coastal wetlands. Rare since the beginning of the ‘90s.
Identification
Very similar to a Black-headed Gull but larger, with a longer bill and more elongated forehead. In winter, plain white head and red bill. In summer it has a pink wash on its breast. Juveniles are similar to those of a Black-headed Gull but with a white head, a small mark on the ear coverts and a less boldly patterned wing.
Movements
Peaks in April and October.
