Common winter visitor to wooded areas, abundant when food shortage in the North causes massive migrations South.
Identification
Males have black crown and bib, yellowish breasts, white bellies, a yellow rump, also yellow, notched tail and greenish, streaked back. In flight, black wings with broad yellow wing-bars. Females are paler and more heavily streaked with a white belly.
Movements
Postnuptial peaks in 1st hf. November; prenuptial peaks in 1st hf. February and 2nd hf. March.
