Scarce winter visitor to wetlands and open areas (>20).

Identification

Similar to a Long-eared Owl but with smaller eartufts, and distinct black patches round yellow eyes. Heavily streaked upperparts and breast but paler belly. In flight, longer wings than a Long-eared Owl and with darker wing tips with a yellow-brown groundcolour. Greater diurnal habits.

Déplacements

Peaks in 2nd hf. March and 1st hf. November.
